2010 P1 Web Logs

We use this to keep our meeting notes, journels and other weblogs.

  1. Installation Of Linux Red Hat 5 onto PC (L31203).

    Problem faced:Incompatibility Network Card (Marvell Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller).

    Solution:Download Driver onto PC (L31203).

    Result:Linux OS is able to recongize network card.

  2. Troubleshooting of Linux (Surfing Internet)
    Problem: PC L31203 (Linux) is able to ping within other PC on the Net work but not able to surf the Internet
    Solution: Read up System Administration forum to understand the setting of hostname and domains configure the network with the correct hostname and domain name.
    Result: PCL31203 is able to Surfing the Internet

  3. Problem: Unable to ping PCs across the network.

    Solution:
    1) Network configuration must set primary & secondary DNS.
    2) Ethernet device must set statically set IP addresses.
    3) Hardware Device must bind to MAC address

    Results: Able to ping PCs and unable to connect firefox.

  4. Steps to install driver:
    1) In terminal type ./install.sh or naviagate to that folder: cd / (location of folder installer)
    2) Reboot the system
    3) Hardware of ethernet card (Marvell Technology Goup Ltd. Unkown device 4380(etho))

  5. Work towards a base configuration setup diagram such as 1 instructor linux machine, 1 student linux machine and 1 more windows machine. With the setup, we can trial the various troubleshooting scenarios.
