- Staff acquisition refers to the process of getting people assigned to the
project - Before a Project Manager starts got get staff for the job, he/she has to determine the skills requirement of the staff needed first (e.g. programmer with visual basic experience)
Negotiation for staff
- After the job requirements are finalized, staff can be obtain via
- Interviewing people from outside the organization
- Negotiating with Functional Managers from other internal departments
Internal staff
- Sometimes, a company might have people with the required skill available to do the project. In such situation:
- Project Manager has to approach the manager whom the potential team member is reporting to
- Negotiating with Functional managers from other internal departments (e.g. software team, technical support department)
- Communicate to the functional manager the skill set required of the staff that is needed from him or her
- Need to convince the functional manager the importance of the staff to the project
